Dogs are humankind’s finest companions, and they continuously demonstrate it!
They are not solely remarkable friends, but they also prove to be extraordinary aides whenever we require assistance. To the extent of their capabilities, a dog is inclined to support his cherished human through any hardship, and Dodger, in this case, is the prime example.
When his visually impaired owner, Rolland Croteau, found himself stranded after a taxi driver left him at an incorrect spot, Dodger, his assistance dog, rose to the occasion!
Taxi Incident
Croteau, an elderly blind gentleman, ventured to the Army and Navy Air Force with his service dog, Dodger. After a lengthy afternoon, around 10 P.M., he summoned a cab for his return journey. Then, the unforeseen occurred!
The first taxi operator declined to take him home due to the presence of his dog. As per Rolland, the driver claimed he was allergic to dogs and that having Dodger on board was out of the question.
“I heard the taxi arrive, and he refused to let me and Dodger in the cab. He said he was allergic to dogs,” Croteau recounted to Global News.
Then, an additional surprise occurred! When the second taxi driver arrived, both he and Dodger prepared for the journey home, only to find out that he had left them at the incorrect residence.
Once Rolland recognized that he was standing in an unfamiliar area, at someone else’s door, he made his way back to the street, but the taxi had already departed.
“The operator couldn’t locate my house, he drove around several times, and eventually he ended up on one street and dropped me off at a house, but it was the wrong one,” Croteau stated.
Good Boy, Dodger
It was late into the night, and Rolland had no option but to travel home on foot. In that moment, his guide dog, Dodger, demonstrated his true intelligence!
Croteau placed the harness back on his dog and instructed him to “locate the way home.” Despite feeling quite frightened as it was already 11 P.M. and raining, he entrusted his entire faith in his loyal companion.
Fortunately, Dodger, the good boy, guided his owner for three blocks, and eventually, they made it home safely.
The man was immensely grateful to his furry friend, particularly upon realizing that several unfortunate events could have unfolded in the unfamiliar region.
Dodger showcased his fidelity and genuinely demonstrated that he’s an exceptional seeing-eye dog. In Rolland’s perspective, he wholly and completely relies on him!
“No matter where I go, I have confidence in him,” he expressed.
The taxi service issued a statement acknowledging their awareness of the entire situation and will utilize this regrettable mix-up to retrain their personnel. As a gesture of goodwill, they even presented Croteau with complimentary rides and a gift for his remarkable dog.
What ultimately matters is that both Rolland and his dog returned home unharmed. With the help of his devoted companion, this elderly man will always feel secure! And, Dodger will undoubtedly continue being the goodest boy!
