The tale of black shelter Pitties struggling to secure a permanent home persists across shelters nationwide. For some inexplicable reason, these charms continue to be overlooked due to their less favored hue, similar to their black feline counterparts.
As a result, numerous dogs fail to discover a forever home, and the overwhelming majority of these pups are ultimately euthanized.
One Pittie named Arlo was at a crossroads at a local shelter in Bakersfield, California. He remained consistently ignored and bypassed by potential adopters until a compassionate woman intervened and resolved to make a difference!
Arlo’s Narrative
Donna Clark, from Soul 2 Soul Animal Rescue, situated in Roseburg, Oregon, received a call from one of their transporters concerning Arlo. He informed her that this black Pittie mix was on the brink of being euthanized, along with several other dogs, unless someone adopted them swiftly.
Clark promptly consented to take in Arlo, alongside another dog, despite being fully aware of the difficulties involved in finding a home for a black Pittie.
“Among dog breeds, the most challenging type to place is a black pit bull,” Soul 2 Soul Animal Rescue posted on Facebook.
Within a few days, Arlo showcased his goofy and lively demeanor, captivating everyone nearby with his charm.
He eventually located a forever home with a large family, but the owners opted to return him after a month. Their fear was that Arlo’s high energy could potentially harm their children, and before long, he found himself right back at the shelter.
“They brought him back due to his energetic zoomies, as the wife feared he would injure one of their kids,” the S2SAR team stated in a Facebook post.
Clark felt devastated to witness Arlo return to the shelter after having finally discovered what he had been yearning for all along.
This black Pittie seemed quite puzzled as to why his family relinquished him. He began to show indications of despair until he received a second chance – a kind foster home and an experienced caretaker who promised to help get Arlo back on the right path.
The Day Has Finally Arrived
It took Arlo a while, but he eventually returned to being himself in the foster environment. His playful and amusing demeanor reemerged, indicating that he was ready once more for a new family.
Despite being such a lovable companion, Clark and the team sought someone with ample time and enthusiasm to adopt Arlo – ideally a person with a spacious, enclosed yard and plenty of affection to share.
Although it seemed a long-shot, the day at last arrived!
A woman came to meet Arlo and was instantly smitten by his charming character. Without hesitation, she decided to welcome him into her family!
“We are so incredibly happy for our lovely boy, and tonight we feel so accomplished that we placed the most challenging type of dog there is” his caretakers shared on Facebook.
Alongside his humans, Arlo also gained a sister adopted from the Central Point dog rescue. Today, these two are relishing life to the fullest, running freely in the yard and cherishing every moment together.
Clark is overjoyed to finally see Arlo thriving with his forever family. After all the trials he has faced, he undoubtedly deserves all the affection in the world!
