As an individual who has previously owned a dog, there may be few things more heartbreaking than having to say goodbye to your pet.
This could be due to a variety of circumstances, but ultimately, it’s an experience that’s impossible to prepare for.
In today’s narrative, we will discuss a dog who was deserted multiple times by various individuals due to his advanced age.
Introducing Martin
In the perception of his owner, Martin was the gentlest dog imaginable, and someone he cherished deeply.
Regrettably, due to his age, his 89-year-old owner was unable to care for him, thus he began searching for a suitable family.
This endeavor proved to be quite challenging as Martin was also 10 years old, leading potential adopters to view him as a senior dog with little time remaining, despite his joyful and friendly disposition.
Samantha Ranlet, a marketing communications expert at the SPCA, shared with The Dodo: He adapted pretty well. I’m uncertain if he comprehended what was happening, but right from the first day, he was this joyful, easy-going, truly sweet old gentleman with a Teddy bear appearance.
After enduring numerous hardships, Martin was unable to discover a suitable family for himself.
Ranlet further mentioned: He kept being overlooked repeatedly. Within two months, seven adoptions fell through for various reasons.
As time elapsed, the failed adoptions piled up. This was sufficient for the SPCA team, who decided to raise awareness about Martin.
Eight Attempts Is A Charm
Following the post, his narrative became viral. The post received thousands of likes, shares, and inquiries about him.
The volume of individuals applying to adopt him was remarkable. One of the applicants was an older couple.
Ranlet stated: They were not deterred by his age nor by his heartworm condition. They simply fell in love with him and his Teddy-bear spirit.
He was welcomed by the older couple, even while still undergoing treatment for his ailment, but nonetheless, the adoption was finalized.
Ultimately, Martin has discovered his new abode and a family that truly cares for him. He also gained a new friend – a cat named Hilltop.
It’s truly wonderful to witness senior dogs receiving opportunities for adoption. No matter their age, a dog will always love unconditionally and be there for their human, so never disregard this aspect when contemplating an adoption.
