Among the multitude of tales that I have encountered over the years, Blue’s narrative is unequivocally one of my top picks!
It narrates a tale of perseverance, but it’s equally one of affection and compassion.
For this enormous Greyhound lad, the beginning was far from splendid. He was born into the racing world, well away from anywhere familiar that even barely echoed home. Treated merely as a product, Blue never experienced the warmth of love.
All he was aware of was rigorous training for each forthcoming race until, tragically, he endured a fractured leg…
He Was Meant To Be Cherished
It was on the day he sustained a leg injury that he also lost his place to belong. His owners abandoned him, leaving Blue without any shelter.
Enter – Kimberley!
Despite her uncertainties about welcoming a Greyhound into her household, Kimberley was heartbroken upon hearing Blue’s background.
“He was dropped off by his trainer at my sister’s residence. He was so distressed that he was pacing back and forth on her patio, and even vomited. I nearly had a heart attack when I realized how large he was,” Kimberley shared on Blue’s official Instagram.
She certainly wasn’t prepared for a giant in her home! Nevertheless, she and her family welcomed Blue with their hearts and arms fully extended!
The remainder, as they say, is history!
The Silliest, Toast-Loving Pup
Only a few weeks passed for Blue to completely reveal his true self, although he certainly required some time to adjust.
During his initial days at Kimberley’s residence, he was rather bashful and withdrawn. He reluctantly participated in walks as he was anxious from all the sounds outside. Owing to his previous trauma, Blue lacked confidence in large social environments.
Then, his authentic character emerged!
When Kimberley witnessed Blue racing around for the first time – she realized he had begun to feel secure in his new environment. However, she certainly didn’t anticipate that he, unlike other pets, had an extensive range of emotions to convey!
This extraordinary pup astonished the entire family with how remarkable he truly was.
Blue became engaging, perceptive, enjoyed to “converse” with his humans, and mastered the perfect ways to articulate all of his sentiments.
Above all, he developed an immense fondness for toast and treats, as well as for cozy naps on the couch! During his active moments, he was a genuine athlete, though.
Blue rapidly became that cherished member of the family! He was the type of dog that instantly uplifted everyone around him, not just his human companions. Blue held a special affection for other dogs, relishing his time in dog parks.
Moreover, he was truly crafted for urban living! With his fashionable ensembles, he was a true gentleman, and he carried off each outfit from the list like a model!
You Shall Be Remembered, Blue
Unfortunately, after incredibly beautiful years in a loving environment, this remarkable rescue pup lost his battle with cancer. He fought valiantly until his final moments, but ultimately crossed the rainbow bridge, leaving everyone behind utterly heartbroken.
“We had forgotten what life was like without Blue in it. Wherever we look, we are reminded of the boy who both figuratively and literally had such a significant impact, an irreplaceable aspect of who we are. Just gone,” his owners expressed on Instagram.
Throughout his existence, Blue’s tale resonated with many souls. He traded his racing life for family life and even became an Instagram sensation, capturing attention in every corner of the globe!
In his memory, Kimberley and her family resolved to organize a fundraiser to preserve Blue’s legacy. All proceeds will benefit various Greyhound rescue organizations, aiding more of these dogs in leading the lives they rightfully deserve.
This is a deserving tribute for a dog who brought immense happiness into his owners’ lives, don’t you believe?
It also serves as a poignant reminder that Greyhounds should not be confined to racetracks; they belong in loving homes!
