Plum’s heart yearned for human affection, yet what she received in exchange was neglect and forsaking.
Her unfeeling guardians deprived her of the opportunity to experience a warm home. They confined her in a puppy mill where Plum birthed numerous litters of puppies.
Once they deemed her no longer valuable, her breeders abandoned her at an overcrowded shelter in Riverside, California.
With tear-filled eyes, Plum felt frightened and isolated.
She required someone to trust her and grant her a new lease on life.
Rescue Mission for Plum
Regrettably, after spending three weeks in a cacophonous shelter, Plum found herself on a euthanasia list.
The pup surrendered all hope. Her striking eyes reflected a lack of optimism. It felt as though she had accepted her grim destiny.
The immensely kind-hearted individuals behind Saving Riverside Shelter Dogs, a networking platform dedicated to aiding red-listed dogs in Riverside, California, learned about Plum and came to see her.
They filmed a heartrending video of the puppy and shared it on social platforms.
Those who witnessed Plum’s tear-stained and weary eyes were left with shattered hearts. Everyone hoped for the pup to be rescued.
Fortunately, Amber Arpin and Imagine Peace for Pups Rescue stepped in to help Plum. The compassionate humans rescued her from the shelter and placed her with a local foster named Lea Candelo.
Candelo welcomed Plum into her home and enveloped her in love. Plum sighed with relief. She sensed comfort and security in the embrace of her foster mom.
After a week in her temporary foster house, Plum journeyed to Portland, Oregon.
Encountering Her Rescuers
Arpin and the rescuers from Imagine Peace for Pups were ecstatic to welcome her into her new beginning.
Zeb Walter, Plum’s foster-to-adopt father, arrived to collect her and take her home.
Despite her troubled state, Plum remained gentle and trusting. The dog sensed that a transformation in her life was imminent.
Upon disembarking from the bus, Plum showered her dad and the rescuers with affectionate kisses.
“Today she stepped off the bus with her endearing face, and we nearly lost it- she was so tiny, so emaciated, her eyes were so swollen, and her legs were stiff and scarred. But she approached with open body language, showering kisses and wagging her tail, completely trusting,” Imagine Peace for Pups noted in a Facebook post.
Plum’s rescuers embraced her and treated her to her inaugural puppaccino. The puppy’s eyes shimmered with delight.
A Fresh Life Abundant with Love
She bid farewell to her saviors and transitioned into her new residence.
Both her father and her furry sibling, Miley, enveloped her in affection.
Plum experienced being loved beyond anything she had known before, and she started to adjust to her new environment.
A week later, Plum visited the veterinarian. She had a small lump removed from her eyelid and a significant mass from her hind leg. The masses were later determined to be cancerous.
Fortunately, Plum triumphed over cancer.
“Miley and Plum did wonderfully at their vet visit today. Both are in excellent health and at a good weight. Also, Plum is cancer free,” Walter shared on Facebook.
Plum occasionally shares updates about her daily adventures on her Instagram profile. She enjoys hiking and visiting the park with her father and Miley.
The joyous pup is living her best life. Plum revels in the affection her father showers upon her.
She discovered the joy she always merited.
