Meet Arthur
Arthur is a charming one-and-a-half-year-old Cattle Dog mix who lived his life as a stray from an unclaimed litter.
He was immensely thankful to have been adopted shortly after his arrival at the shelter. Regrettably, his joy was short-lived as his family ultimately surrendered him back to the shelter because they could no longer care for him.
This unfortunate incident truly impacted Arthur.
He became profoundly despondent, anxious, and refused to make eye contact with anyone. However, his demeanor was about to transform when a remarkable person named Rocky chose to spend some time with him.
Easy Does It
Since Arthur was housed in the sallyport, a section of the shelter where dogs typically stay before they can enter and be assessed, it represented an excellent occasion for Rocky to introduce himself.
Initially, Rocky chose to sit farther away, giving Arthur his own space as the rescuer fully recognized that he was very frightened due to the unfamiliar surroundings.
As Arthur continued to evade eye contact, Rocky resolved to win his trust by offering him a treat.
At first, he placed one in front of him, but the puppy merely sniffed it. Then, he positioned another closer, but just like the first, it remained untouched.
The rescuer then opted to hold the treat in his palm and extend it to Arthur, and to his astonishment, the puppy ate it!
Rocky was ecstatic.
He elaborated that anxious dogs typically avoid treats from an open hand as it heightens their stress. Nevertheless, Arthur accepting it made Rocky feel optimistic.
Yet, even after taking a couple of treats from Rocky, Arthur still averted his gaze.
Magic Of Kindness
He then resolved to inundate Arthur with affirming words and remind him of what an incredible dog he was.
“I believe that you are a good boy and you deserve affection, and I am sorry that your family left you behind, for you did not deserve that. You warrant love, hugs, and treats… Guess what? Today marks the beginning of your new life. It is going to be fantastic. I know it seems a bit frightening at present, but if you place your trust in me, we will help you find a home and a family that adores you just as much as you adore them, okay?” Rocky told Arthur in a YouTube video.
Upon hearing these heartfelt words, Arthur began to emerge from his shell, even permitting Rocky to give him a nice pat.
Rocky kept showering Arthur with kind words, and with each one, the puppy’s heart visibly began to thaw.
I am confident that over time, Arthur will fully come out of his shell and discover a family that can finally provide him with the existence he deserved all along.
