My heart breaks into countless fragments each time I gaze at the picture of Sid pleading for an opportunity with those forlorn, optimistic eyes.

Hanging onto his minuscule kennel, this German Shepherd blend has spent the previous seven years in a New York shelter. After two unsuccessful adoptions and countless evenings yearning for a fresh opportunity, Sid has grown to be a big fellow now.

He’s no longer a puppy, having spent precisely 1,244 days in the shelter. Still, he possesses the enthusiasm of a young dog who desperately desires a human to cherish and embrace!

Searching For A Permanent Home Since 2017

Sid was taken to Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter, New York, in 2017 when he was just ten months old. Within a few months, this jovial pup secured a forever home, but his time there was brief.

“Sid initially arrived as a stray in 2017 when he was 10 months old; he quickly got adopted and then returned due to behavioral concerns,” the rescue noted on Facebook.

Sid’s overwhelming excitement and vigor became a genuine challenge. When he got another opportunity, his second adopter similarly returned him for the same reason!

What should have been a genuine opportunity for happiness resulted in him enduring numerous days in a restricted area, entirely heartbroken.

In July 2024, an Instagram user, @adopt_ky_and_friends, shared a heart-wrenching video of Sid pleading to be adopted from his kennel. His tale rapidly disseminated across the internet, with thousands becoming aware of his plight.
