Seasoned animal rescuer, Karenlynn Stracher, hailing from Long Island, is already accustomed to a variety of circumstances throughout her extensive rescue journey. Therefore, she was prepared one morning when an unexpected call from a woman seeking her assistance interrupted her slumber.
It was quite early when she received the call, and it took her a few moments to awaken from her sound sleep. However, upon learning that the police had instructed the woman to reach out to her, she swiftly got out of bed and headed toward the designated site.
Specifically, a surprise awaited her concealed deep within a laundry machine.
“A First Time For Everything”
Upon her arrival, the laundry machine had already been opened, and an elderly lady was anxiously awaiting her presence.
As soon as she peered inside, she encountered two small black eyes – it was a young possum trapped within the machine. Despite having rescued many animals before, Karenlynn found herself startled by this particular occurrence.
“There’s a first time for everything,” she shared in a TikTok video concerning the rescue.
Nevertheless, Karenlynn quickly regained her focus and commenced the rescue procedure. She utilized a towel and, after encountering some challenges, successfully secured the little possum and removed her from the machine.
The frightened creature was so paralyzed with fear that she remained still, yet this seasoned rescuer understood it was just a temporary phase and that the critical factor was that the possum was now in safe hands.

Soon Where She Belongs
As the possum peered at Karenlynn from the washing machine, and given that she was a juvenile, Karenlynn opted to name her Peekaboo, upon the request of the elderly woman.
This lady even captured a few photographs of Peekaboo and sent them to her granddaughter, humorously stating that it would be a present for her great-grandson’s forthcoming christening.
Nonetheless, this possum did not end up in an ornamental box; rather, Karenlynn brought her home to her rehabilitation facility. She will remain there until she heals and matures enough to be reintroduced to the wild. Karenlynn is confident that soon she will be where she truly belongs.
“She’s with me and thriving,” Karenlynn conveyed to The Dodo. “She’s quite wild, which is beneficial. It will aid her when she’s big enough to be set free.”
