HelpAWS is an animal rescue group located in Saint Lucia, which arranges a clinic annually focused on spaying and neutering.
This gathering significantly contributes to regulating the dog population on the island.
Though it is demanding work, the veterinarians and personnel feel a great sense of fulfillment knowing they dedicated their time to assist dogs in distress.
They were reminded of this once again after they prolonged their working hours to support a litter of puppies who urgently needed assistance!
Mystery Box
The third day of the Saint Lucia clinic was just as hectic as any other. When the workday eventually concluded, the entire staff was pleased to be going home.
However, something halted them in their tracks.
“[We] spotted the cardboard box resting on the ground beside the trash can. We paused to examine, realizing what we might uncover but hoping it was not true,” remarked Charlene Penney Troubetzkoy, the founder and CEO of HelpAWS.
Cuddled inside the small cardboard box were five of the most charming little puppies.
Despite Charlene’s exposure to numerous dogs in challenging circumstances throughout her career, one simply cannot grow accustomed to it.
No matter how often it occurs, it continues to break my heart to peer inside and see weary, frightened little eyes gazing back at me.
To The Shelter
The rescue team, eager not to waste any time, hurried the puppies back to the shelter where they received comprehensive checkups.
Even though they were in good hands, the puppies required some time to acclimate to their new surroundings.
Their initial fear was typical. Yet, it did not take long for them to realize they were finally in a secure place, where they would be nourished and cherished.
After their health assessment, the little group was more than welcome to relish their time at the shelter.
Though the siblings enjoy spending their time together, they were eager to discover their permanent home.
Departing from the shelter one by one, each reminded the staff of the gratifying nature of their work.
Kudos to HelpAWS and all those involved in this noble vocation for aiding this small group of dogs in need, even when they felt fatigued themselves.
