A canine is a person’s closest companion, there’s no question about it, but it can also be an extraordinary ally to another dog.
These magnificent creatures can form profound connections as well, much like the two pups from California who would not part ways, even for a moment.
Sadly, it came to light that they were bidding their final farewells to one another all along.
A Battle For Survival
Carolina Morales, a woman from California who had been nourishing two homeless dogs for over four years, contacted Hope For Paws in hopes that they would assist these canines, as she observed that one of them was unwell.
The dogs spent their time near the railway tracks in the industrial zone of the town, which was quite hazardous, noisy, and hectic on weekdays.
Carolina did everything in her power to keep these two furry companions alive, but she realized her efforts were no longer sufficient before reaching out to the rescuers.
The rescuers understood that approaching the dogs would be challenging since they had not had any direct interaction with humans for over four years.
Therefore, they set up soccer nets at the ends of the block where the dogs were located at the moment of capture, as shown in the video.
The Labrador (Roxy) was anxiously attempting to find an escape route while her German Shepherd companion followed closely. Even though they understood that getting out was impossible, the dogs remained hopeful.
After a while, one of the rescuers succeeded in capturing the Lab, but she displayed fierce defiance, necessitating the use of multiple snares to gain control over her.
Moving Roxy into a crate was equally difficult, which is why they had to attach the snare to the Lucky Leash to prevent the dog from biting any of the rescuers.
The GSD was caught relatively quickly, but she was utterly petrified. Chloe, the German Shepherd puppy, was so afraid that she even relieved herself and trembled to the point that she could hardly stand.
Moment to Bid Farewell
The rescue personnel transported both dogs to the Hope For Paws center, where they quickly began to acclimatize.
One volunteer speculated that they likely picked up “the positive vibes at the Hope For Paws space”.
After receiving warm baths and an abundance of food and affection, the two furry companions were taken to a veterinarian.
While it was clear that these dogs were not in the best condition, no one could have imagined that Chloe suffered from life-threatening ailments like an aortic aneurysm and congestive heart failure.
It was painfully obvious that Chloe wouldn’t pull through, as her body had already suffered from starvation, fleas, ticks, and years of negligence.
The two companions had to part ways this time, leaving Roxy utterly devastated, as it was the first occasion in years she found herself alone.
Fortunately, the team from The Little Red Dog provided a home for Roxy, not just to foster but to give her solace during the toughest period of her existence.
According to The Little Red Dog’s website, Roxy appears to still be looking for adoption, but I have no doubt that won’t last long, considering how delightful she is.
