Regrettably, not every creature experiences a joyful existence right from the moment they are born.
A significant number of them grow up wandering the streets, struggling for leftovers and seeking refuge from the chill. Some of them suffer abuse from former owners, causing them to lose faith in all humans.
Fortunately, there are individuals around the globe who devote their lives to saving such dogs and demonstrating to them that they deserve to be part of a caring family.
This is one of those tales.
Rebuilding Trust
When Lee Asher, the creator of a registered non-profit sanctuary named The Asher House in Estacada, Oregon, learned about a dog that required additional love and care, he resolved to provide it.
He traveled to the local animal services of King County to meet the German Shepherd slated for euthanasia due to her intense fear of any approaching human.
Asher aimed to build her trust and return her to his sanctuary so that she could finally experience genuine affection.
Upon their first encounter, the Oregon rescuer chose to proceed cautiously.
He began by sitting down and gently taking the pup’s leash, encouraging her to come closer. Despite still being quite timid, the pup approached Asher and even sniffed and licked his hand.
Asher continued to speak to her in a gentle and reassuring tone, assuring her that she was safe and that she was a good girl.
“What a lovely girl. You’re doing so well. You are going to go home today. No need to worry. She’s perfect,” Asher reassured the pup in a YouTube video.
And just like that, the pup was taken home!
Although the pup remained quite anxious, Asher succeeded in placing her in his vehicle and transporting her to her new beginnings.
Significance of Rescuers
This narrative exemplifies the critical role that rescuers play.
The manner in which Asher approached this pup was remarkably touching. He wanted her to realize that she was in trustworthy hands and would no longer need to fear any human.
I am confident that, just like many animals that have come to The Asher House, this pup will emerge from her shell and embrace the wonderful experiences life has to offer her.
