“Everyone, this is Mighty Smols. He is Hugs Bunny’s younger sibling, currently spending time with their mother Luna, until he’s ready to return home to us.”
This is how Tanya, the owner of the Instagram account, @a_puppy_and_a_bunny, from Manchester, Vermont, introduced the most adorable member of the family.
Even though they already had a small rabbit named Hugs Bunny, Bear was eagerly anticipating Mighty Smols’ arrival at their home, as if he sensed something remarkable was destined to unfold between them.
The love tale of Mighty Smols and Bear commenced immediately after their initial encounter.
“A week later, I saw him resting next to Bear, and that was the instant I realized this would blossom into an incredibly beautiful friendship,” Tanya remarked in an interview with The Dodo.
From that day forth, each subsequent day turned into a genuine fairytale for the two. Their mornings always started with a big bunny hug as Mighty Smols was typically the first one to greet his furry best friend with “good morning.”
As the sweetest reply, Bear would shower Mighty Smols with gentle kisses on his ears, and his fur would rise like a mohawk, which is exceptionally adorable.
Every single day was extraordinary for them, and they relished it in their own unique manner.
“They may not share the same language, but they manage to communicate with each other and appreciate the small joys,” Tanya expressed, and then added, “I refer to them as smol delights”.
Ultimately, the most pivotal element of their bond was trust, as this bunny held a deep level of faith in his large canine brother, knowing he could feel secure in his presence. That was precisely the main fuel of their robust friendship.
An Apple As The Emblem Of Everlasting Friendship
With any strong connections and relationships, there are always distinctive moments where everyone can perceive what genuine love resembles. And, the token of affection between the bunny and the dog was a simple, little apple.
According to Tanya, one day, she and Bear visited a lovely apple orchard in Manchester, Vermont. There was one particular apple that Bear sniffed and held delicately in his mouth.
Tanya was convinced that he would devour it in one bite given its sweetness and juiciness, but something else transpired… something truly remarkable.
Bear brought it home and presented it to Tanya for washing. After that, he eagerly waited for his BFF bunny to arrive so that he could share it with him.
“Bear even delayed giving Mighty Smols the initial bites, which was genuinely beautiful and heartwarming,” Tanya mentioned, nearly in tears of happiness, as that was one of the most heartfelt moments of her life.

The Most Heartbreaking Day Since Yesterday
All that is lovely tends to fade away too swiftly. While this poignant love story between a bunny and a dog endured for four long years, time flew by, and the disheartening day eventually arrived.
On July 14, 2023, Tanya shared a devastating message on her Instagram profile. “With a shattered heart, I announce that we had to bid farewell to our Mighty Smols, early Monday morning,” she expressed.
Bear’s Little Bunny experienced a sudden heart failure, having been running around and eating well only hours prior.
It was an unexpected shock that left Bear in tears. Despite his other dog companion, Cub, attempting to uplift his spirits with humor and outdoor antics, Bear was inconsolable.
Tanya decided to recount the story to her followers on Instagram in a creative manner.
She mentioned that one day, Bear heard a voice summoning him from deep within the mossy timberland. As Tanya conveyed in her beautifully crafted tale, it was the Wise Wood Sage, a local myth who had traveled to these Green Mountains from a distant place.
He would only manifest for those who needed to hear his words. The sage told Bear that those we treasure will always remain with us. In that instance, Bear understood that Mighty Smols was orchestrating something special for him from the high heavens.
Mighty Smols’ Final Gift From The Heavens

Bear and Cub sensed that the large bird weaving through the lofty skies had brought something special for them, as the second part of the tale indicates.
Back at the cottage, they discovered a letter stating, “When you enter, you will encounter a smol bunny who resembles me. Treat him tenderly, ever so gently you must be, he will adore you back & make you go Squeeeee!”
Bear immediately recognized Mighty Smols’ handwriting and rushed into the cottage where he found an adorable little bunny.
This little bunny looked precisely like Mighty Smols, and he had a playpen complete with hay and water right where Mighty’s used to be.
Everything the baby bunny did evoked a squeee from Bear! He decided to name him SmawSquee… a fitting title since it signifies “a smol delight” – a tribute to his forever-cherished friend, Mighty Smols.
