“A Heartfelt Christmas Appeal from a Shelter Dog in Search of a Forever Home”

Written By Ash

Christmas is the most incredible time of the year, brimming with twinkling lights and joyful moments with cherished family. Most importantly, this period is about realizing wishes.

Sadly, for those who are left to manage on their own, without family or loved ones, this season may only bring further anguish and sorrow.

Spending over 200 days in a shelter without anyone noticing you exemplifies that unfortunate circumstance; one dog found herself in such a predicament.

The three-year-old Labrador and American Staffordshire Terrier mix, Laguna, in her dire quest to discover a cozy home, viewed Santa as her final hope for rescue.

This is why she dispatched him a heartfelt letter, wishing he would locate her a caring family.

The Most Heartbreaking “Wish List”

When Laguna arrived at Haseyas New Beginning Animal Rescue in Rayne, Louisiana, she was a stunning 3-year-old pup. Her health was relatively good, and everyone believed she would soon have her happy conclusion.

Almost 200 days later, during the festive season, instead of celebrating Christmas and the New Year with loved ones, Laguna is still anticipating inside the confines of her kennel.

Kelli Briscoe, a representative of Haseyas New Beginning, mentioned that no one deserves a home more than sweet Laguna.

“Laguna’s perfect home would be with an energetic family, including children, and another adult dog that enjoys playtime,” Kelli shared with Newsweek. “Laguna has endless energy and loves interacting with her canine friends outside. She is incredibly intelligent and requires someone eager to engage her mind and teach her new skills.”

However, since her arrival at the shelter, no one has expressed any interest in Laguna. “Not even a glance,” Kelli remarked.

Yet, Laguna did not lose hope for her greatest desire. Hearing whispers from the humans at the shelter about a kind old man with a fluffy white beard who grants wishes, she hurriedly picked up pen and paper.

The note she sent to Santa is perhaps the most poignant one this Christmas.

The letter reads:

Hi Santa,

I heard about you from my volunteer friends, and they told me you can assist in finding forever homes for us doggies, so I sincerely hope you can help me find one.

Don’t misunderstand me, Santa, they are marvelous to me here at Haseya’s. It was a bit overwhelming initially, but I’m accustomed to it now, and after several months I’ve made good friends here who take me out and play with me.

Here’s what you can relay to potential adopters about me, Santa, that might be beneficial. I’m a cheerful girl and a very amiable one …I’m truly silly and love to have joy! I need a grown-up family that finds me so special that they will engage in playtime with me until I’m worn out …I adore chasing tennis balls …and I enjoy going on long walks, too.

I really hope you can find a family for me, Santa. I would love to play fetch with you if you visit the shelter sometime, and I appreciate you so much for reading my letter.

Love, Laguna

Haseyas New Beginning Animal Rescue showcased the letter on Facebook, evoking sadness in many but also encouraging them to share the post so that amid the numerous letters, Santa might notice the one from Rayne.

They All Deserve A Merry Christmas

Haseyas New Beginning Animal Rescue was established in 2018, initially focusing on rescuing equines. Later, it broadened its mission to include all animals, with dogs becoming their primary emphasis.

Since then, they have arranged various events aimed at raising awareness of issues within the dog community and regularly post content on social media aimed at the same goal.

One of their latest initiatives on Facebook is “Holiday Sleepovers”– a campaign spotlighting their most often overlooked dogs, including Laguna.

“We’re seeking families to welcome these dogs as fosters from 12/24- 1/2 to provide them a break from the shelter and to capture experiences that will aid them in finding a forever family,” they stated.

As Christmas embodies giving and goodwill, we hope that someone who has read this letter will make an effort to send it to Santa Claus promptly.

It would certainly be lovely if, at the very least, one of the holidays, Laguna or another shelter pup could celebrate the season in the company of a cherished family.
