What appeared to be an ordinary daily play session transformed into a day filled with astonishing revelations.
Stella, the dog, along with her human, welcomed a family member they’ll always cherish.
Let’s Uncover The Mystery… Egg?
It was an ordinary day for Stella, Erica Laurenzi, and their other household dog. Erica reveled in the pleasant weather while her furry companions frolicked on their expansive 250-acre estate in Maine. Everything seemed idyllic.
Then, Erica realized something felt off. Stella was engaged in play, but what was capturing her attention? She moved closer to see what her pup was involved in, vaguely remembering not giving her a small ball to entertain herself with.
Upon approaching Stella, she discovered that her dog wasn’t interacting with a ball.
Stella discovered an egg!
It was slightly larger than a chicken’s egg, fitting snugly in Erica’s hand. It was astonishing that Stella didn’t accidentally crush it. The gentle pooch handled it with care, as if she understood that whatever was inside was extremely fragile.
Erica began to search the premises, attempting to locate any other eggs or even the mother. Despite her efforts, luck was not on her side.
“After an hour of searching, I had no success. I firmly believe in returning it to the mother if the chance presents itself.”, stated Erica.
Thus, she realized she had to take action: Erica brought the egg back with her.

The mystery egg was now safe at home. What comes next?
With extensive experience in nurturing and rescuing birds of various species on her Maine farm, Erica knew precisely what steps to take.
“The Googling began straight away… I recognized it was an egg, but was uncertain of its type. We initially presumed it was a turkey egg since we had observed these birds foraging on our land a couple of times. Later, a Google search confirmed that the egg resembled a turkey’s. I tucked the egg in my sports bra and headed to Tractor Supply to find the very best incubator. Only the finest to ensure this egg had the best chance of survival.”, exclaimed the thrilled co-mommy.
Stella observed her every action keenly, curious about what was unfolding. This loving dog’s maternal instincts activated instantly, and all she could do was wait patiently for the egg to hatch and then shower affection on whatever emerged from it.
Exactly 25 days later, it was time for the big reveal, right on Erica’s birthday morning!
“We placed the incubator high on our kitchen counter, out of reach of any possible dangers. By the day’s end, Stella and I sat side by side on our bar stools as it pecked at the shell. She kept a watchful eye throughout the night, eagerly waiting while it dried off and adjusted to its new surroundings.”
Stella could hardly take her eyes off the little creature, seemingly questioning: Is this real? Am I about to become a mommy?
Indeed, because of Stella, this tiny turkey was granted the opportunity to witness the beauty of the world.
Thanks to Stella, this abandoned egg gained a family!
“Stella often peeks over the side of the brooder to check on her little companion, exchanging glances and soft chirps,” Laurenzi mentioned.
She’s a wonderful dog. She understands her boundaries and knows not to disturb the chick.
Erica intended to nurture the baby turkey and eventually set it free into the wild. Naturally, introducing her to all the dogs and assuring her that they are friends would be an error and could potentially inflict serious harm to the turkey later on.
While Stella adores her unique baby, she also understands what is best for her.

Stella, Erica, and the baby turkey gained popularity on TikTok after one of Erica’s turkey videos went viral. It was genuinely a heartwarming compilation narrating the tale of how Stella discovered the egg and how they raised it together.

Since the little one hatched, Erica has been sharing updates on its development. The adorable little bird is thriving remarkably well for an egg that was once lost in the wild.
