If a definition of relentless love were to be represented by a dog, it would undoubtedly be Magnus – the valiant and intrepid therapy canine who remained steadfast by his owner during one of life’s most challenging chapters.
When his owner found himself in the hospital, Magnus steadfastly refused to part ways. He stayed by his human companion’s side throughout, offering endless love and support.
I’ll Be There For You
Brian Benson, Magnus’s human, was hospitalized due to abnormal swelling and respiratory difficulties that concerned not just him, but his entire family.
In his Instagram update, Brian shared that he faced an arduous time coping with everything that came his way, particularly since heart ailments have been longstanding adversaries for his family.
Fortunately, Brian did not have to navigate the stressful three-day hospital stay alone, as his four-legged support companion was permitted to remain in the room with him around the clock.
“He fulfilled his duty perfectly; kept me calm and distracted me from my current predicament.”
Dogs possess the remarkable ability to decipher a person’s body language, which allows them to perceive any shifts in their owner’s emotions. [1]
That is precisely why Magnus never left his owner’s side, even lying down in Brian’s hospital bed, right next to him, offering solace as he sensed something was amiss.
This trained six-year-old therapy Labrador retriever once again demonstrated how deeply he cares for his family by being present not only for Brian but for his entire family.
He grasped the importance of keeping everyone relaxed and at ease during such a trying time, not only by being playful when required but also by providing hugs and affection.
Excuse Me, Sir, This Is My Bed Now
A hospital bed, wires, and blood examinations are certainly not enjoyable, yet Brian still found reasons to chuckle during his stay, courtesy of his furry friend.
While Brian was out for a blood test, Magnus seized the moment to claim the bed as his own.
Upon his return, Brian couldn’t resist grabbing his phone to capture the sight of his buddy snoozing soundly with one of his cherished toys.
All jesting aside, Brian was fully aware that Magnus had taken his place out of concern for him and because he missed him.
Doggos frequently take over their owners’ spaces because they adore them, yet this behavior may also be attributed to separation anxiety.
This reasoning seems plausible for Magnus’s actions, especially given his propensity for clingy behavior, as seen in this video.
The connection shared between Magnus and Brian is undeniably special, hence it’s hardly surprising that he experiences loneliness whenever his owner is away.
Finally Home
If you’ve ever visited a hospital, you can relate that it’s a rather taxing experience that depletes energy not just from you but also from your loved ones.
That sentiment encapsulated how Brian and his family felt during his hospitalization, but Magnus exerted his best effort to uplift everyone’s spirits and foster a nurturing environment within the hospital room.
However, once they returned home, Magnus took a moment to recharge, collapsing onto what appears to be his dog bed. He could not contain his joy at being back home.
It was finally time for him to unwind and receive some care.
Show Must Go On
Not all aspects of life unfold as we initially envisioned.
Fortunately, even the tiniest distractions in life can aid us in navigating tough times. In this case, Magnus took charge of providing them! In a way, he became a vital source of comfort for Brian through what seemed to be the most challenging phase of his life.
Brian revealed in his update concerning the hospital stay that accepting the diagnosis of cardiomyopathy was a struggle, particularly as he had maintained a healthy lifestyle for over three decades to mitigate the chances of heart ailments:
“The harsh truth is that occasionally, one cannot surpass their genetics, regardless of the effort expended. It’s akin to trying to swim against the current; tremendous effort with little to no outcome.”
With the unwavering support of his loving family, friends, and his devoted canine companion, Magnus, Brian has continued to embrace life, which now overflows with love, encouragement, and joyful moments (many of which can be attributed to Magnus’s antics).
While Brian had already shared a close connection with his therapy dog, after the hospital experience, Magnus transformed into his personal guardian who protects him even during his showers.
