In what can only be characterized as the most challenging times, there exist very few elements that unadulterated, altruistic affection between canines and humans cannot achieve. For Doc, a 10-year-old German Shepherd, Mckenzie’s devotion was a miracle!
This unfortunate dog was relinquished at the local Oklahoma shelter due to his inability to maneuver his hind legs. He was scheduled for euthanasia that very day, but Mckenzie determined today was not the day for his demise!
Rescued On The Day Of His Euthanization
Doc was given up to the shelter as a senior pooch with motionless hind legs. His previous owners chose to euthanize him since he could no longer move independently, but when a nearby dog owner, Mckenzie, and her partner, Grant, came across this unfortunate pup, they resolved to adopt him.
Doc was diagnosed with advanced degenerative myelopathy. During their initial veterinary examination, they were advised to provide this German Shepherd a peaceful passing, as he was in considerable discomfort, and there appeared to be no prospects for improvement in his state.
Mckenzie and Grant wished to give Doc one more memorable day, prompting them to take him on a picnic.
They provided him with some food and a few toys to ensure his day was extraordinary. They even secured Doc’s hip with a bandage to aid in supporting his weight so he could attempt to walk a little, and that’s when something truly fantastic unfolded!
Doc began to make small leg movements! He was brimming with vitality, intent on living and embarking on a fresh beginning!
Mckenzie cancelled the euthanasia appointment and chose to grant Doc an additional chance at life!
“After witnessing the spirit & determination to live in him yesterday, we canceled his Lap of Love hospice appointment scheduled for this morning. He demonstrated to us that he is eager and capable of walking (& now RUNNING), he can regulate his bowels and hold it until we take him outside,” Mckenzie shared on her Instagram.

To end the life of a boy who is yearning to live would be simply immoral, and Mckenzie and Grant just couldn’t allow it in good faith. They opted to keep Doc in their household along with their two other dogs.
They bathed him, acquired a cozy dog bed for him, and welcomed him into their home! Now, it is official – Doc has a new residence in Oklahoma!
“Observing how just 48 hours of affection, hygiene, nutritious food, and a cozy place to rest has altered this fellow convinces me he likely experienced a life of neglect and suffering.”
Incredible Transformation
In under a year, Doc has evolved into an unidentifiable dog! Not only did he recuperate, but he actually acquired the skill to walk independently! At times, it seems as if his ailment has entirely vanished!
He walks, hops, and sprints just like his two canine siblings! Certainly, he still wears specialized harnesses to assist his hip, but he doesn’t object! With merely a day left on his canine calendar, that’s an incredible extra time he has received! And he doesn’t feel like slowing down!
“It’s destiny that he entered our lives. He’s as much a part of our family. He’ll stay here indefinitely. There’s no way we can let him depart!”
Doc is living his happiest life! Once a forsaken, partially paralyzed canine, he now could not be more joyful!
