Numerous stray canines suffer severe injuries or lose their lives due to being struck by vehicles. Sadly, a significant number of individuals do not exhibit empathy in providing them assistance, resulting in these animals often ending up in dire states.
However, the tale of Wags demonstrates that there are still kind-hearted individuals in this world! This unfortunate pooch was abandoned on the highway when his saviors, Evie and Leslie, discovered him. The events that unfolded after they rescued him will tug at your heartstrings!
Evie And Leslie To The Rescue
For Evie and Leslie Benson, their day began like any other as they drove home from their shopping trip. In the distance, they spotted a small, brown figure that they later recognized as a stray canine.
The cars whizzed past him as he tried to find safety. They were deeply concerned someone might inadvertently run him down, prompting them to step in and assist this helpless dog.
Without hesitation, Evie leapt from the moving vehicle, seizing the dog as swiftly as she could. It was a race against time, considering the heavy traffic, but luckily – the rescue was triumphant!
Wags Was So Grateful
As a gesture of gratitude, the dog instantly began wagging his tail. He was fatigued, underfed, and filthy, yet his joy remained intact.
Eventually, he dozed off in Evie’s lap, causing her to tear up. Her sole desire was to reassure this unfortunate creature that he was now in safe hands.
They brought the dog to Goochland County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center in Goochland, Virginia, for further recuperation. Evie chose to name him “Wags” because he incessantly wagged his tail in response to everything they said.
The Sweetest Reunion
The shelter personnel ensured that Wags received all the necessary care. He acclimated to his surroundings quickly and began demonstrating social behavior almost immediately.
Once they safely delivered Wags to the shelter, Evie and Leslie resolved to return the following day to check on him.
Despite their doubts about whether the canine would remember them, the moment Evie walked into the shelter and locked eyes with Wags – he dashed towards her and initiated a hug.
He leaped into her arms and snuggled into her lap, as if to express: “Hey, thanks a ton for rescuing me!” This was an incredibly touching moment for both Evie, Leslie, and Wags. Ultimately, they were just relieved that the dog had finally received the care he genuinely required.
Still In Recovery
Wags remains in recovery at his temporary residence in Virginia. The staff members are dedicated to providing him with all the love and attention he requires before he transitions to his permanent home.
“He is extremely emaciated, but is full of tail wags and affection. He is receiving a great deal of love and care, and will not be available for adoption until after his medical issues are resolved,” stated the GCASAC team on their official Facebook profile.
We hope that Wags will soon discover his forever family and never again need to fear crossing perilous roads!
