There’s no delight like the delight of aiding a dog in distress. However, when you assist the entire canine family – that’s merely a sensation that is impossible to articulate with language!
Upon her initial sighting, Josephine was desperate for assistance! This abandoned mother dog resided on the streets with her trio of puppies, and each day was a challenge.
The vicinity she inhabited was rife with coyotes, and the unfortunate mother had no choice but to conceal her little ones in a deep pit within an open field.
Sadly, that wasn’t the answer that provided the family with the safety they sought so earnestly, but the encouraging news was – someone appeared out of nowhere with a strategy!
A Timely Rescue
Krystle Woodward, from Pinky Paws Search & ResQ in Selma, California, spotted one of the pups peeking from the pit while on her walk. Upon realizing there was an entire dog family hidden within, she promptly sprang into action!
Alongside another rescuer, Megan Bowe, from Bowe’s Animal Rescue in Madera Ranchos, and a few of her relatives, Krystle initiated a rescue operation.
The issue was – the puppies were buried very deep within the hole, and they certainly couldn’t be retrieved by hand.
Krystle’s husband ensured to widen the hole slightly, and then Kenny, the boy accompanying the group, crawled into the pit to rescue the pups.
The operation itself wasn’t a stroll in the park as the puppies were so terrified that they burrowed even deeper, but eventually, Kenny managed to secure them all. All three of them were finally in safe hands!
However, the mother (later named Josephine) was still unaccounted for, and the group established a humane trap, positioning her puppies in the kennel beside it, and waited.
As soon as the frightened mama heard her puppies calling from a distance, she swiftly hurried over. That moment marked a significant breakthrough for this furry family! Even though they were unaware of it at that moment, the dogs were finally secure.
Josephine And Her Pups Are Finally Safe
Upon her arrival at the facility, this unfortunate mother didn’t even know how to be a dog. Josephine struggled to adjust to the humans around her, but over time, she relaxed next to Krystle.
“Josie is thriving daily that I spend with her. She still has the unfortunate tendency of jumping up which can be painful. Additionally, she can be quite rough with her mouthiness. However, she is overflowing with joy and happiness. I hold a great deal of hope for her,” noted Krystle.
Her puppies, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Peter, were growing alongside her and they flourished remarkably! Within just a few months, these furry infants evolved into healthy adolescents who excelled in their obedience. After some time, all of them found their forever homes.
On the contrary, Josie required patience and a compassionate individual who would comprehend her. This unfortunate girl had spent her entire existence in the wilderness, far from what could be considered standard living conditions. Hence, it was entirely understandable that she struggled to adapt to a new lifestyle.
“They consistently deserve an opportunity at life. It’s not their fault the circumstances they’ve encountered. We are their advocates,” asserts Krystle.
Thanks to the generous individuals who contributed funds, Josie was relocated to Colorado Rehab Rescue, where she received comprehensive care from people who provided her precisely what she required – patience!
Once a stray mother dog who had to navigate through life, Josephine is finally discovering what an existence filled with love truly entails!
