“What did he do to warrant this?” is a thought that crosses my mind every time I encounter a dog suffering in dire situations.
The response, naturally, is – nothing! No dog warrants a life filled with anguish. In most instances, the sole culprit is a careless owner who permits these situations to occur.
This was precisely the situation with Gourd.
He was cruelly “released” forever, but rather than bringing him to a sanctuary, the owner opted to abandon this poor, underweight puppy at a waste site.
He Weighed Merely Six Pounds
In the footage shared by Animal Love Shelter, Gourd, the five-month-old dog, was filmed lying lifeless next to an enormous heap of trash.
Prior to being discovered by the compassionate rescuer, he endured days fighting for his life. Regrettably, he was just moments away from a devastating outcome. Fleas infested his body, and his eyes were clumped and oozing with pus.
He lacked the energy to raise his head or shift his body, as Gourd was drastically underfed. At the time of his rescue, he weighed under six pounds.
The rescuer promptly transported him to a veterinary clinic, where his filthy and tangled fur was shaved off. His petite frame exposed the evidence of extreme neglect, as Gourd’s bones and ribs were starkly visible.
Fortunately, he was free from any contagious illnesses that could have worsened his state. Nonetheless, he required careful observation for the following weeks due to malnutrition and potential complications.
This courageous pup needed several days of comprehensive care, but ultimately, he was able to lift his head.
This was a touching moment for all involved. Witnessing Gourd reach for his food and consume everything in the bowl was incredibly gratifying.
There was an abundance of life within him as he gradually began to move towards full recovery.
Gourd Astonished Everyone
He had significantly improved compared to his initial days. His eyes sparkled with happiness as he was finally prepared to take his first steps.
Gourd clearly had affection for everyone at the clinic. He gently offered them his paw whenever they sat beside him and stroked him on the head.
By his second week of treatment, he even reached the point of standing upright on two legs, which was impressive! He had come so far and impressed everyone with his recovery.
The medical staff couldn’t contain their delight either. They were thrilled to witness Gourd revealing his true nature. It turned out that beneath all those injuries was a joyful pup who embraced his fresh start in life with open paws!
Stunning Transformation
At long last, the moment had come!
After two weeks of round-the-clock care at the clinic, Gourd was finally discharged. He set off on yet another thrilling adventure, exuberant to head home with his rescuer. For the first time in ages, he received a warm bath in a new environment, and he relished it!
The post-treatment care significantly influenced Gourd’s recovery in an incredible way. But most importantly – it was manifested in his extraordinary physical change!
He developed a new, fluffy coat of fur, highlighting his true beauty and character in full display. Comparing his prior appearance to his current one is nearly incomprehensible. It is definitely safe to assert that Gourd is an entirely different pup!
From this point on, he will lead the life he truly deserves.
He has already settled into his new abode and just adores being part of all sorts of activities. Daily strolls, many furry companions, and exhilarating city excursions are now his routine. Yet, time spent by the pool appears to be his greatest delight!
Gourd, the indomitable puppy, finally possesses everything a dog should have, and his happiness knows no bounds!
